Chinese Xinjiang authorities spend 70% of all funds to fight poverty
The authorities of Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region in north-west China spent an impressive part of investment funds to improve the quality of life of the local population, Xinhua News Agency reported on May 6. For several years, the region spent 70% of all public expenditures on a series of projects on employment, cultural development, education and health care. Investments improve the quality of life of people of different nationalities equally, the local authorities reported. Already, every Xinjiang family has at least one employed member, and 99.9% of all school-age children go to schools. They also have free healthcare available in some areas. From 2014 to 2019, almost 3 million poor people were lifted out of poverty in Xinjiang. In 2020, Xinjiang's rural poor population should go completely down, according to the authorities 'plans.
