Iran: US and Saudi Arabia mock international mechanisms
On June 17, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi responded in his message to the UN Secretariat's exclusion of the Saudi coalition from the list of child rights violators, saying that the United States and Saudi Arabia are mocking international mechanisms. This was reported by the Iranian agency IRNA. Just a few days after leveling unfounded accusations against # Iran, the UN secretariat gives a free pass to the Saudi-led coalition in # Yemen, despite the recognition that the coalition killed hundreds of Yemeni children, Mousavi tweeted. Saudi Arabia (w/$ $) and the United States (w/bullying) mock internal mechanisms, he added. The UN Secretary General removed the Saudi coalition from the blacklist at a time when international institutions recognize that a large number of Yemeni children and youth died as a result of natural disasters, including student bus explosions, airstrikes on homes, schools and hospitals. According to Iranian authorities, such actions are not unprecedented, since in 2015 the UN Secretary General removed Saudi Arabia from the blacklist, citing the financial threat of Saudi Arabia to the UN. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, one Yemeni child dies every 10 minutes as a result of the war waged in the country by the Saudi coalition.
