In Latvia, the intensity of car traffic on the roads decreased
Employees of the State Enterprise Latvian Valsts celsi reported an 18% drop in traffic intensity on the roads of Latvia between March 15 and March 28, compared to the same period of time in February 2020. According to the representatives of the enterprise, the largest drop in traffic, by 83%, was observed on the Elgava Highway in the direction of Elea and the border with Lithuania. In addition, traffic intensity on the Valmier Highway from Strenchy to Valka towards the Estonian border decreased by 43%. Experts note that as a rule, fluctuations in traffic intensity on roads have a direct correlation with the rate of growth, or the fall of the economy. According to the news agency, an emergency regime was introduced in Latvia from 13 March to 14 April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
